We will be performing a network infrastructure upgrade on our ZA-JHB03 node, introducing an additional filtering layer that works alongside our existing Arbor network protection.
ZA-JHB03 is the first node in this rollout. Once we are satisfied with how things perform, we will gradually extend the upgrade to the rest of our game server fleet — each with advance notice before it happens.
WHY WE'RE DOING THIS
Our existing Arbor mitigation is excellent at absorbing large-scale volumetric attacks that would otherwise saturate our network pipe. What it cannot do is make intelligent decisions at a game-protocol level — that requires something purpose-built for game traffic.
This upgrade introduces a custom filtering layer that sits closer to your game server and understands the traffic patterns of the titles we host. The two layers work together — Arbor handles the heavy volumetric floods upstream, while the new layer handles everything else with game-aware precision.
- Better uptime during attacks. Malicious or abnormal traffic is identified and dropped before it can affect your server, rather than your server bearing the brunt of it. - Fewer lag spikes and player disconnections. Because filtering happens upstream and at the network level, traffic anomalies have far less impact on the in-game experience. - Game-protocol intelligence. Unlike generic network protection, this layer is tuned specifically for the game types we host — it understands what legitimate game traffic looks like and acts accordingly.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Game servers on ZA-JHB03 will be briefly offline during the maintenance window. We expect actual downtime to be well under the 2-hour maximum. - Your server's public IP address and ports remain exactly the same. Your game panel, connection details, and everything players use to connect are unaffected. - No action is required on your part. Once maintenance is complete, your server will start back up automatically.
